The Popularity Game - Whose Reputation Rocks?

by StudyMalaysia.com on March 27, 2015 | Top Stories

You've heard of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings — now there's a spin-off called the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings. So what does a reputation ranking mean?

University Rankings The reputation ranking is based on the subjective but expert judgement of senior, published academics from universities around the world. Proof of the global reach of the survey is that it is carried out in 15 languages (Arabic, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, European Portuguese, English, South American Spanish, Italian, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Turkish and Russian).

Another special feature of this survey is that its participation is by-invitation only. This means that institutions are not allowed to nominate participants, and those who sign up as a participant must have an invitation. The criteria used in the selection are publication record, representation of a country and the academic field in the exercise.
