Course Overview

This diploma is designed to provide foundational and applied knowledge in mechatronic engineering, combining mechanical, electronic, and computing systems. It prepares students for real-world challenges in engineering design and automation, and for advanced study in engineering fields accredited under the Washington Accord.

  • Semester 1: Instrumentation, Fundamentals of Engineering Mathematics, Circuit Analysis, Engineering Drawing
  • Semester 2: Engineering Mathematics 1, Digital Electronics, Programming with Python
  • Semester 3: Engineering Mathematics 2, Analogue Electronics
  • Semester 4: Material Science, Robotics
  • Semester 5: Thermo-Fluids, Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship, Problem Solving and Programme Design Using C, Electives: Applied Mechanics / Fundamental of Petroleum Engineering*, Microprocessor Systems / Petroleum Geochemistry*
  • Semester 6: Computer-Aided Design & Manufacturing, Industrial Management, Safety and Ethics, Engineering Project, Electives: PLC and Pneumatics / Elements of Reservoir Rock and Fluid*, Systems and Control / Petroleum Geology*
  • Semester 7: Internship (16 weeks)

Entry Requirements

  • SPM: 3 Credits including Mathematics and any Science subject (Science, Physics, Chemistry or Biology), with a pass in Bahasa Malaysia, Sejarah (History), and English
  • IGCSE/O-LEVELS: 3 Credits (Grade C & above) including Mathematics and any Science subject, with a minimum Pass in English
  • UEC: 3 Credits (Grade B & above) including Mathematics and any Science subject, with a Pass in English
  • STPM: Pass STPM with a pass in Mathematics, English, and one relevant science/technical/vocational subject at SPM level
  • Certificate: Recognised Certificate in Engineering/Technology or equivalent OR recognised vocational/technical certificate with one year work experience or bridging semester

English Requirements (International Students)

  • IELTS: 5.0
  • TOEFL IBT: 40
  • Pearson (PTE): 47
  • MUET: Band 3.5

Students who are under Bachelor’s Degree Programme will have the option to opt-in for the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Under this Scheme, students will receive 2 Degree Certificates & Transcripts upon graduation: 1 from Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia and 1 from De Montfort University (DMU), UK.
