Course Overview

The Bachelor of Environmental Health and Safety (Hons) ODL is a 4-year undergraduate degree programme that prepares students for a career in environmental health and safety. This programme offered by MAHSA University employ’s an innovative teaching and learning approach through online and distance learning (ODL) delivery modes.

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is the study of science and practices of public health that is concerned with all aspects of the natural and built environment affecting human health and its related issues that impacts communities, alongside promoting sustainable living conditions. Students will study disease prevention and control, food safety and hygiene, drinking water quality and supply, solid waste management and cleansing, pest and vector management, environmental health legislation, international health and management, wastewater treatment and management, occupational health and safety, risk management and assessment, emergency response management, industrial hygiene and environmental health activities in local authorities. The scope for environmental health related activities are wide and encompasses future advances and technologies.

There is an increased and continued demand for expertise in the EHS field locally and globally. EHS graduates are much sought after in various industrial and manufacturing segments including government linked agencies. Here at MAHSA, we have taken the bold step to envisage the global and national vision of the current and future industrial revolution by molding competent graduates with all rounded qualities coupled with the necessary talent and skills to lead the ever-evolving environmental health and safety landscape.

The ODL teaching methods include lecture and tutorial sessions on the e-learning platform.

Self–instructional materials will be uploaded to the online forum prior to lecture or tutorial sessions. Integrative teaching approaches through discussion and seminars will be held through this online platform. Lecturers will facilitate learning using case scenarios. Practical sessions will be conducted through face-to-face teaching where hands–on skills can be demonstrated.

Entry Requirements

  1. Pass Matriculation/Pre-University/STPM or equivalent qualification with a minimum CGPA of 2.33 in TWO of the following subjects:
    • Biology
    • Physics/Mathematics
    • Chemistry
  2. Pass A-Level or equivalent qualification with a minimum Grade D in TWO of the following subjects:
    • Biology
    • Physics/Mathematics
    • Chemistry
  3. Pass in South Australian Matriculation (SAM) – achieves 60% ATAR or a minimum score of 12 for three (3) subjects, including:
    • Biology
    • Biology/Physics
    • One other subject
  4. Pass Diploma in Environmental Health from MAHSA University with a minimum CGPA of 2.50.
  5. Pass Diploma with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 in a related field (from other higher education institutions).
  6. Pass Diploma with a CGPA of less than 2.75 in a related field and a minimum of 3 years (36 months) of working experience in the related field.
  7. Pass in International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum of 24 points, including the following subjects:
    • Chemistry
    • Biology/Physics
  8. Pass in Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) – achieves Grade B in five (5) subjects, including:
    • Biology/Physics
    • Chemistry
    • Three other subjects
  9. Pass in Monash University Foundation Pre-University Program (MUFY)/Canadian Pre-University (CPU)/Canadian International Matriculation Program (CIMP)/Higher School Certificate-Sydney Australia/UNSW/HSC/New Zealand Bursary/American High School with Advanced Placement (AP)/Trinity College Foundation Studies/Western Australian Curriculum Council (WACC)/AUSMAT/South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE)/Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE)/Victorian Certificate in Education (VCE)/Tertiary Entrance Examination (TEE)/Ontario Secondary School Diploma – achieves 60% ATAR or 60% (aggregate) in the following two (2) subjects:
    • Chemistry
    • Biology/Physics
  10. Pass in Indian Pre-University – achieves 60% (aggregate) or CGPA of 2.50, including the following two (2) subjects:
    • Chemistry
    • Biology/Physics
  11. Other equivalent qualifications recognised by the Government of Malaysia.

English Language Proficiency for International Students:

  • TOEFL (550)
  • IELTS (5.5)
  • MUET (Band 3)

If the entry qualification to the programme is from a university where English is not the medium of instruction, OR the candidate must pass an English Proficiency test approved by the University.
