Course Overview

The core of MSU's Diploma in Nursing programme is the integration of practice and care aspect of nursing. As a student of nursing, you will be involved in comprehensive learning experience involving classroom work, activities in simulation wards, practical room and skills lab. You will be trained by lecturers with extensive training in nursing, who share their expertise whilst keeping you abreast with the latest developments in the health care field. Nursing is a challenging profession, requiring students to have mental and emotional strength. The innovative and constructive learning environment at Management and Science University provides support to students to excel in all aspects of their studies. Attachments with partner hospitals and community health clinics at the end of the programme ensure you graduate industry-ready for a career in nursing.

Year One

• Psychology and Sociology in Nursing
• Nursing Care: Infections, Fluids, Burns and Scalds
• Basic Pharmacology
• Communication for Nurses

Year Two

• Nursing Care: Musculoskeletal, Genitourinary and Endocrine System
• Paediatric Nursing
• Community Health Nursing

Year Three

• Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing
• Medico Legal Aspects in Nursing
• Emergency and Disaster Nursing
• Clinical Practice

Entry Requirements

1. All candidates with local qualifications MUST possess credit in Bahasa Melayu in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).
2. All local candidates who possess GCE 'O'/'A' Level MUST possess credit in Bahasa Melayu.
3. Unified Examination Certification (UEC) is only accepted for Private Institutions of Higher Learning as approved by Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).

For Malaysian candidates:

1. Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with minimum:
   
   CREDIT in 3 subjects:

   • Bahasa Melayu.
   • Mathematics (Elementary or Additional or Modern)
   • Science (Science/ Biology/ Physics)

   
   AND
   
   Pass in two (2) subjects including English

2. Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM)
   Pass four (4) subject with stage MAQBUL
3. Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM)
   CREDIT in Bahasa Melayu / Matematik / Science / Bahasa Inggeris
   
   Pass two (2) any academic or vocational subject

For International candidates:

Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or *equivalent with:

CREDIT in 3 subjects:

• Bahasa Melayu.
• Mathematics (Elementary or Additional or Modern)
• Science (Science/ Biology/ Physics)

AND

Pass in two (2) subjects including English?

AND

A pass in International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with an Overall Band Score of minimum 5.5;

OR

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL):

1. TOEFL Paper Based Test (TOEFL PBT) a minimum score of 515.
2. TOEFL Computer Based Test (TOEFL CBT) a minimum score of 215.

3. TOEFL Internet Based Test (TOEFL IBT) a minimum score of 80.

   • Cambridge Advanced English (CAE)
   • Cambridge Proficiency English (CPE)
   • Pearson Test of English (PTE)

   
   *Equivalent - refers to the oversea academic qualification obtained that is equivalent to SPM as approved by MQA.

Health status:

1. All candidates MUST be certified medically fit by a registered medical practitioner within ONE MONTH from commencement of the nursing programme.
2. A person with any of the following shall be disqualified from entry into a nursing program.
   • Serious physical or mental illness, and/or
   • Serious communicable disease.
3. Candidate MUST not have any physical disabilities or impaired senses that hinder nursing dexterity
