Course Overview

The Diploma in Music program focuses on providing students with a comprehensive foundation in music theory and performance, with additional learning in music history, aural training, and practical ensemble work in choir or orchestra. Students develop their instrumental or vocal skills through rigorous principal study courses and gain an in-depth understanding of Western music history and 20th and 21st-century music. While the program includes introductory courses on music technology and entrepreneurial skills, the emphasis is on honing musical theory and performance abilities. Assessment methods include written tests, assignments, practical exams, weekly practical sessions, group projects, presentations, and a final dissertation or thesis. This structured and immersive educational experience ensures that graduates are well-prepared for careers as performers, music educators, and other roles that prioritize music theory and performance, ready to excel in the dynamic and evolving field of music.

Entry Requirements

1. A pass in SPM with at least credit in any 3 subjects, or any equivalent qualification; OR
2. A pass in Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), with a minimum of Grade C (GP 2.0) in any subject, or any equivalent qualification; OR
3. A pass in Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with a minimum grade of Maqbul; OR
4. A pass in SKM Level 3 in a related field, and a pass in SPM with a minimum of 1 credit in any subject; OR
5. Any qualifications equivalent to Certificate (Level 3, Malaysian Qualifications Framework, MQF)
6. All prospective students must audition by performing two contrasting pieces on their primary instrument or voice, demonstrating aural skills, sight-reading ability, and participating in a brief interview.
