The School of Education and Social Sciences (SESS) and other faculties within SU have never offered a PhD in Social Sciences program. At the highest level of study, this program is extremely relevant to our school. It could also be a program that accepts post-graduate students after they have completed their master's degree. At our school, there are six bachelor's programs and one education master's program that can serve as important feeders to this program. Furthermore, a PhD in Social Sciences is a doctoral degree that includes a broad range of social sciences research, as described in the disciplines of study above, and is always in demand due to educational needs. A PhD in Social Sciences is required to be considered for this position.

Program Standard (Doctoral Degree by Research)
i. A Master’s Degree, as accepted by University’s Senate
Note: There shall be no direct entry from Bachelor’s Degree level to PhD level.
ii. Other qualifications equivalent to a Master’s Degree, as accepted by University’s Senate.
iii. Candidates with masters degree who are registered for programmes may apply to convert their candidacy to the PhD programmes within one (1) year after master’s degree registration, subject to:
a. having shown competency and capability in conducting research at PhD level.
b. rigorous internal evaluation by MSU
c. approval by University’s Senate
i. Lecturer / academic
ii. Researcher/ Social Scientist
iii. Counsellor, Psychologist
iv. Policy makers and managers in governmental or non-governmental agencies.
