Materials Engineering covers a wide range of engineering fields which applies the science and engineering of materials for the development, manufacturing and the research of metals, ceramics, composite materials, electronic materials, bio- and nano-materials. The programme is designed to produce highly skilled and knowledgeable materials engineers especially in pure sciences and materials engineering. It comprises aspects of materials structure, phase transformation, materials properties, characterisation of materials, materials design processing, selection and testing of materials.
Materials are an important element in all engineering fields, where the innovative materials usually bring about advancement in design and introduction of new products. In addition, the programme also strives to uphold the nation’s aspiration to produce materials engineers who are able to overcome the challenges of globalization and K-economy to fully achieve a developed country status.
