Course Overview

The Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering) with Honours is offered on a full-time basis. The full-time programme is offered only at the UTM Main Campus in Johor Bahru. The duration of study for the full-time programme is subjected to the student’s entry qualifications and lasts between four (4) years to a maximum of six (6) years.

The programme is offered on full-time basis and is based on a 2-Semester per academic session. Generally, students are expected to undertake courses equivalent to between fourteen (14) to eighteen (18) credit hours per semester. Assessment is based on courseworks and final examinations given throughout the semester.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia International Degree Programme (UTM-IDP) is a Bachelor Degree Programme offered by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) for Malaysian and international students. The programme provides opportunities for the students to experience a world class teaching and learning environment.

Entry Requirements

1. Malaysian High School Certificate (STPM)

• Results: Based on general requirements and other conditions as prerequisites for the programme set by the university.
• University General Requirements:
  • Passed with at least CPA 3.00.
  • Passed with Grade B in STPM level in the following subjects:
    • Mathematics (T)
    • Physics
    • Chemistry / Biology / Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • AND
  • Passed with Grade B in SPM level in the following subjects:
    • Additional Mathematics
    • Mathematics & Physics
  • Passed the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) with a minimum result of Band 2.

2. Matriculation

• Results: Based on general requirements and other conditions as prerequisites for the programme set by the university.
• University General Requirements:
  • Passed with at least CPA 3.00.
  • Passed with Grade B in Matriculation in the following subjects:
    • Mathematics
    • Physics / Engineering Physics
    • Engineering Physics / Chemistry / Engineering Chemistry / Biology / Computer Science / Computing
  • AND
  • Passed with Grade B in SPM level in the following subjects:
    • Additional Mathematics
    • Mathematics & Physics
  • Passed the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) with a minimum result of Band 2.

3. Diploma

• General Requirements: Fulfill the general requirements set by the university as well as specific requirements of the programme.
• University General Requirements:
  • Obtained a Diploma in Computer Science or Information Technology from UTM, a Public University, or another institution in related areas recognized by the Malaysian Government and approved by the University Senate with a minimum CPA of 3.00.
  • AND
  • Passed with Grade B in Diploma level in Mathematics.
  • AND
  • Passed with Grade B in SPM level in the following subjects:
    • Additional Mathematics
    • Mathematics / Physics
  • AND
  • Passed the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) with a minimum result of Band 2.

4. STPM (Not Current Year)

• Passed STPM (not current year) with at least CPA 3.00.
• AND
• Passed with Grade B in STPM in the following subjects:
  • Mathematics (T)
  • Physics
  • Chemistry / Biology / Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
• AND
• Passed with Grade B in SPM in the following subjects:
  • Additional Mathematics
  • Mathematics / Physics
• AND
• Passed the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) with a minimum result of Band 2.

5. Matriculation (Not Current Year)

• Passed Matriculation (not current year) with at least CPA 3.00.

• Passed with Grade B in STPM in the following subjects:
  • Mathematics (T)
  • Physics
  • Chemistry / Biology / Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
• AND
• Passed with Grade B in SPM in the following subjects:
  • Additional Mathematics
  • Mathematics / Physics

• Passed the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) with a minimum result of Band 2.

Career Prospects

Graduate of the programme can work as a Analyst/Programmer, Software Engineer, System Analyst, System Developer, Software Tester, Software Architect Engineer, Web Developer, Assistant Project Manager, Academician and Researcher.

Alternatively, the graduate of the programme can also enrol to any of the postgraduate programmes offered in UTM and worldwide by any mode either research or mixed-mode or taught course.
