With effect from 5 August 2020, Malaysian and international students who require an English competency score for university admission in Malaysia can choose to sit for Linguaskill. This applies to students who plan to enrol for diploma, bachelor degree, master degree and doctoral programmes in Malaysia.
In a circular dated 9 December 2019, the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE) specified five English competency tests that are recognised for university admission in Malaysia: MUET, IELTS, TOEFL iBT, Pearson Test of English, and Cambridge English Qualifications and Tests.
Following a briefing session with Mr Hamidi Halim from Cambridge Assessment English Malaysia and Mr Henry Law, Corporate Strategy Director of Sasbadi Holdings Berhad, MOHE clarified in a subsequent circular dated 5 August 2020 that Linguaskill may be used to fulfil English competency requirements for university admission as it is a component test that falls under the Cambridge English Qualifications and Tests.
The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) have also been informed of the policy clarification by MOHE, which also stated that Cambridge Linguaskill may be used for student visa applications via EMGS.
