Introduction

City & Guilds was established in 1878 and earned a Royal Charter in 1900 for its efforts to motivate individuals, corporation and communities to achieve their goals and to promote lifelong learning.As a registered charity and a royal chartered Institute, City & Guilds receives no direct government grants but operates by charging enough to cover its costs and support future investment while maintaining value for money.For over 100 years, City & Guilds has worked with industry and educators to deliver vocational qualifications that meet the needs of business and the World economy. Our focus is very much on relevant qualifications for real jobs.As a founding partner of Imperial College, City & Guilds is responsible for the design of the initial vocational qualifications infrastructure in the UK, and exports that knowledge and expertise across the globe.City & Guilds have entered a new era with Pitman Qualifications (Formerly Pitman Examination Institute) as City & Guilds Pitman Qualifications to further establish its stronghold as a global assessment provider for vocational qualifications.
